Red body is a product obtained through single firing technology, which involves the simultaneous firing of the tile support and glaze. The support (i.e. the base) of this type of ceramic product takes on a characteristics reddish, yellowish or red-brown colouring with a variety of intermediate shades, thanks to the use of clays containing iron oxides. The various materials classified as "single fired red body tile" can have very different physical properties, because by opportunely adjusting the proportions of components it is possible produce everything from vitrified materials for outdoor floorings, whose water absorbency is close to zero because they are obtained from feldspathic fluxing agents, to more porous materials ideal for indoor floor and wall coverings, based on clays containing carbonates.
